Capacitance and Dissipation Factor Testing

Capacitance and Dissipation Factor (C&DF) testing is used to determine the properties of a capacitor or insulating material.

Capacitor testing is essential to prevent equipment failure and ensure system reliability. C&DF testing is used to verify the capacitance is within specification and that the dissipation factor is below the specified limit. A high dissipation factor could lead to a more failure prone, less reliable system. This is a product of how a capacitor with a higher dissipation factor will convert more electrical potential energy to heat in the dielectric material. This heat can lead to premature failure of the capacitor or nearby components.

ORS utilizes C&DF testing along with our many other environmental and mechanical test capabilities to help our customers expeditiously complete their capacitor qualification plans. Here at ORS we perform capacitor qualification plans to MIL-PRF-32535, 39006, 55365, 83421. Contact us to consult with our expert engineering staff about any of your electrical testing needs.
