Dielectric Withstanding Voltage (DWV)
DWV testing is used to ensure the quality of dielectric materials for critical high-reliability applications. The test is intended to account for momentary over voltages caused by switching, surges and other phenomenon. The test voltage is typically higher than the rated working voltage of the device under test. During the test, voltage is applied and the leakage current is monitored to ensure there are no spikes above the specified limit. The test is often performed as a sequence of environmental stresses to ensure the robustness of the insulating material of the package.
